
American Teachers Visit Turkey 84 educators from 21 US cities have been competitively selected to visit Turkey this summer on study tours organized by the Turkish Cultural Foundation. The teachers have been chosen from hundreds of applicants by 21 local chapters of the World Affairs Councils of America, under a partnership program with Turkish Cultural Foundation. They come from Alaska, Colorado, the greater Washington, DC area, Florida, Illinois, Ohio, South Dakota, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Washington state. Divided into three groups traveling to Turkey in July and August, the teachers will visit Istanbul, Bursa, Edirne, Ephesus, Sivas, Konya, Cappadocia and Ankara, as well as other cities and sites. During their tour, the teachers will learn about Turkish music and cuisine, the arts of paper marbling, Ebru, and world-famous tile making at the Iznik Foundation. They will also visit a variety Turkish public and private schools. Briefings by non-governmental organizations will focus on Turkish civic initiatives to improve education in Turkey, as well as political, social and economic issues.
